Jonny Raj begins his fourth season with RUFC and serves as the head coach of the boys U14 side, boys U18 side, assistant coach of the boys U17 side as well as serving as the clubs High School Program Director and RUFC College Advisor.
Jonny Raj also begins his fifth season with the Fairfield University men's soccer program as an assistant coach, spending the previous two seasons as an assistant at the University of Bridgeport. During his first season back at his alma-mater, Johnny helped the team capture the 2017 MAAC Regular Season title as well as the 2017 MAAC Championship on home soil garnering a bid to the NCAA Tournament where they fell short to nationally ranked opponent University of New Hampshire. He helped the team to a 12-5-3 record while guiding Captain, Adam “Angus” Hastings to an Academic All-American selection, Jonas Vergin to MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, and Gordon Botterill to MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
In 2018, the Stags defeated nationally ranked #9 University of North Carolina Wilmington at the UNCW Springhill Suites Classic while winning back to back MAAC Regular Season titles yet again in 2018. Jonny helped the Stags go undefeated throughout conference play with along with an overall ecord of 11-5-2 that season.
Jonny was a four-year varsity soccer player at Fairfield University, beginning with the 2009 season. He earned three All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) first team honors as a back following his sophomore, junior and senior seasons as well as First Team New England All Region Honors junior and senior year. Raj also spent two summers playing for the Chicago Fire in the PDL serving as a captain in which they reached the quarterfinal of the US Open Cup as an amateur side eventually falling to eventual winners Sporting Kansas City. He also spent a year with Reading United out of PA who are a feeder club to the Philadelphia Union MLS franchise as well as CFC Azul out of Connecticut again serving as a captain.
Raj during his four years as a Fairfield Varsity player started in every single game bar one when he was sidelined due to an ankle injury. He served as a captain his junior year in which they were MAAC Regular season champions as well as eventual MAAC Champions.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Fairfield, an Master of Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport and is currently finishing up his MBA in Business Analytics from the University of Fairfield.
Before Fairfield the defender played with the New Zealand U20 national team before deciding to enroll at Fairfield University. He was also a part of Auckland City FC who were winners of the Oceania Federation and earned a berth to the FIFA Club World Cup.
